Today on Health Talk, I had the opportunity to speak with Carmen Marc Valvo, fashion designer to the stars.

Mr. Valvo appeared on the show with me to bring awareness to a very important issue: getting screened for colorectal cancers.

As reported in a recent AskDrManny post, colorectal cancer is the second leading cause of all cancer-related deaths in the U.S. as well as one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers in the country.

According the CDC estimates, 60 percent of colorectal cancer deaths could be prevented with regular screening among people aged 50 and older.

Valvo is one of those people whose life was saved thanks to getting screened in time.  Now, he's teaming up with the Colon Cancer Alliance to make it fashionable to talk about colon cancer screening.

All proceeds from his new book Dressed to Perfection: The Art of Dressing for Your Red Carpet Moments will go to various colon cancer organizations.
